EPS

The processing of EPS (expandable polystyrol) takes place in the steps: pre-expanding, intermediately storing and final moulding.

With pre-expanding the spherical, hard raw material is transported to the tank of a pre-expander and is charged with steam to adjust the required gross density.

When the pre-expanded beads cool down after leaving the pre-expander, the gases condensate inside the beads and lead to a low pressure which is compensated during a material specific intermediate storage time in silos by penetration of air. During the subsequent final moulding this air acts as additional blowing agent.

The final moulding takes place via dry saturated steam either in a mould of a shape moulding machine or for the production of blocks in a block mould. The blocks produced in this way are further processed to a finished product in a sheet cutting plant or a contour cutter.
